Jay Fai - The Michelin Starred Wonder Woman
We dined at Jay Fai, waiting and watching the ever so energetic 77 year young empress of Thai street food, the Michelin Starred Wonder Woman in open kitchen action, as she worked her wok skilfully and crafted the planet’s most delicious khai jeaw poo or crab omelet, laden with the juiciest, freshest most famous chunks of crab meat in all of Thailand.
As she worked the fire and oil in her pots and pans, non-stop for 3 straight hours (she’s the only chef in the house), we waited for 2 for our dishes to be served. But watching this be-goggled craftswoman in action, as she protected her eyes from splashes of hot oil, as her dexterous hands tirelessly churned out dish after masterful dish, was an experience we will cherish for the rest of our lives.
And yes for those of you who think that a Michelin starred restaurant is all about fine dining, impeccable service, carefully selected crockery and cutlery and the choicest of wines, think again. This street-food restaurant deserves more than the one star it has and we see it coming sooner rather than later.
Thank you chef Ton for helping us with our table reservation and for putting in a word to Khun Fai. We did get that pic with the culinary queen, the one we so eagerly wanted. Khap Khun Khap!!!!
